Educating Through Entertaining
Learn About Finances While At The Theater
SAN DIEGO, April 16, 2008 - There are many creative and interactive ways to educate students about
their finances and one way is through live entertainment. Debt-Free America, a non-profit credit and
financial counseling agency, is dedicated to educating youth on the importance of financial literacy. Lack
of financial knowledge and education is a growing issue with our youth today. To support student
awareness and knowledge in financial literacy education, Debt-Free America is currently sponsoring 10
shows of “The Money Mon$ter” through the Enrichment Works Organization based out of Los Angeles.
The 45 minute shows start on April 14 and last through May 14.
The play educates students about their finances and teaches kids about how to be responsible with their
money as they get older. By putting on this creative and music filled production, it not only entertains the
audience, but it also teaches them valuable lessons about how to manage their money correctly and
financially prepare for the future. It is never too early to start teaching your children about being
financially responsible. And what better way to hold their attention than to perform the lessons through
song and dance on stage?
About “The Money Mon$ter”
“The Money Mon$ter” is a play that was written by Enrichment Works’ Founder Abraham Tetenbaum as
a personal finance musical. “The Money Mon$ter” tells the story of a newlywed couple, a banker and
television news reporter, who struggle with debt in a town besieged by a series of mysterious monster
attacks. The performance introduces students to budgets, borrowing and check writing followed by a
question and answer session with the cast. The play features seven songs including a gospel number about
interest rates and a “Budget Tango,” all composed by Norman L. Berman. The play is going to be
performed throughout April and May for 10 after school programs throughout the Los Angeles Unified
School District (LAUSD) thanks to the $5,000 grant provided by Debt-Free America. The play targets
students in low-income areas and is meant to be an educating performance about how to become
financially prepared for the future. For more information and for specific dates and school locations, visit
their website at www.enrichmentworks.org.
